Jennifer Lopez has laughed off her on-stage stumble at the American Music Awards by joking that it was part of a choreographed routine.

Lopez said on KIIS-FM that the way she dealt with the incident should be applauded, adding that she was delighted to be back in front of the crowd performing again.

"Did I trip a little bit? I don’t even remember," she said, adding: "Yeah, I meant to do that. That was part of the choreography."

Lopez, who described the event as "really fun" and a "ball", went on to say: "The measure of things isn’t what happens when you fall, it’s how you recover when you fall."

The awards, held in Los Angeles last night, were dominated by Taylor Swift, who took home five gongs including the coveted ‘Artist Of The Year’ prize.

A sexually suggestive performance by Adam Lambert at the event, during which he kissed another man, has since been defended by the American Idol star.
